Lithuanian Research Library Consortium – Benefits of Being a Part of Big Community (presentation)
(Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro, 2024) Kasperaitienė, Ingrida
ENG: The Lithuanian Research Library Consortium (LMBA) was established in 2001 in order to ensure the most effective way of ensuring the subscription of electronic scientific databases for Lithuanian scientists and other researchers. The founders of the association are 23 libraries and institutions that have libraries. Currently, the association has 45 members. During more than twenty years of operation, LMBA has implemented ongoing projects financed by European Union structural funds and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania (2009–2012; 2012–2015; 2016–2021), within the framework of which the qualifications and professional competences of scientists and other researchers of all fields were improved. The implementation of the projects led to an increase in the added value of Lithuanian scientific production: the use of full-text electronic scientific databases has increased significantly. Scientists have developed a need to access world-recognized scientific information resources. LMBA sought to make the use of information resource databases an integral part of scientific activity, to make database subscriptions available to the widest possible audience of scientists and other researchers. The reasons for insufficient use of scientific information resources were analyzed, the qualifications of researchers and librarians – database administrators were improved. Lithuanian scientists and other researchers have been given access to the highest-ranked international databases and the opportunity to develop their competencies according to the created training programs. At the moment, the main goal of LMBA is to maximally satisfy the needs of information resources of Lithuanian scientists in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania and the members of the association.
