Academic Libraries for Social Empowerment of Disabled People: Citizen Science Actions of the CAELUM Project in Greece (presentation)

ENG: This presentation examines an innovative approach to social inclusion of persons with disabilities through citizen science initiatives implemented within academic library settings. As part of the Erasmus+ CAELUM project, Web2Learn, in collaboration with the University of Macedonia Library, will design and deploy community-driven actions addressing the needs of disabled citizens, specifically targeting Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and those with reduced mobility. This case study provides valuable insights on how academic libraries can serve as catalysts for social inclusion and empowerment by combining institutional resources with community-led citizen science methodologies. The citizen science actions involve at least 20 participants, including academic library staff, disabled citizens, and higher education students. Finally, this contribution will share reflections on the expected outcomes of the Greek CAELUM case study, namely how academic libraries may: a) achieve improved crisis response capabilities for social inclusion, b) adopt practical solutions for accessibility challenges, and c) enhance civic participation of both students and disabled community members in shaping their communities' wellbeing.
Career Growth Opportunities and Work-Life Balance of Professionals Who Transitioned to the Library and Information Science Field in Doha, Qatar

ENG: This study examined the career growth opportunities and work-life balance of professionals who had transitioned into the Library and Information Science (LIS) field in Doha, Qatar. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected through survey questionnaires to capture the experiences of individuals from diverse professional backgrounds who had entered the LIS profession. Findings showed that the majority of respondents were female, mid-career professionals who had previously worked in fields such as education, administration, and public service. Overall, respondents reported a positive perception of career growth opportunities within the LIS field, particularly in areas related to professional development and promotion. Additionally, they indicated a high level of work-life balance, supported by flexible work arrangements, reasonable working hours, and family support systems. There was a significant difference in perceived career growth based on age, while gender and previous profession did not show statistically significant variation. Perceptions of work-life balance remained consistent across all demographic variables, suggesting that workplace culture and policies had a greater influence than individual background. A moderate yet significant correlation between career growth opportunities and work-life balance was identified, indicating that improvements in career advancement were associated with better work-life integration. The study concluded that LIS professionals in Doha had access to meaningful career development opportunities and supportive work environments. However, the need for more structured career progression pathways, targeted mentorship programs, and inclusive organizational practices remained evident. Based on the findings, an action plan was proposed to enhance professional development, ensure fair advancement, and strengthen work-life balance for LIS professionals across Qatar’s dynamic and growing information landscape.
From Scrolling to Studying: The Influence of TikTok on Students Concentration and Learning Motivation (presentation)

ENG: This descriptive-correlational study investigated how TikTok influences students' concentration and motivation to learn. A validated and pilot-tested questionnaire was given to 104 students. The findings revealed that TikTok had a considerable positive effect on both concentration and learning motivation. These findings remained the same across gender, age, and program enrolled. Given that TikTok can help students regain their attention and motivation when used appropriately, it is not as beneficial for long-term learning. Educators and students alike are urged to use the platform purposefully in conjunction with conventional learning methods.
How Can Libraries Empower Research Excellence? (presentation)

ENG: The Library of Kaunas University of Technology utilises bibliometric analysis to monitor the scientometric performance of the University’s departments. This approach provides valuable insights and guidance to enhance the impact and visibility of research outputs. The analysis is based on data from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, aiming to identify top-performing journals and assess the overall quality of departmental research. Additionally, the Library provides an overview of Open Access publishing and international collaboration within the context of the University’s research output. Each department receives tailored guidelines on how to make use of available APC (Article Processing Charge) discounts for publishing in Open Access journals, aligned with their specific research areas. Furthermore, the Library constructs and visualises bibliometric networks for each department. These visualisations help identify publishing clusters both within departments and in collaboration with other institutions.

Information Behavior and Access to Online Live Streaming: A Pilot Study of Avid Viewers in the Philippines

ENG: The entertainment industry transformed its viewing distribution from television to online streaming platforms. This study explored the previously unexamined information seeking behavior of individuals seeking free items when engaging with online beauty pageant content. Using a semi-structured online interview, responses were organized according to demographics and interview questions. Results showed that Filipino fans prefer free access to online streaming. As a call to action, libraries, as sources of media and content, may provide video streaming services to diverse users, provided they are aligned with their mission and objectives. As social media progresses in the Philippines, access to entertainment and online content has become convenient for today’s digital users. Given that consumption often involves purchasing services, and online user behavior is influenced by freely available content, this study investigates how avid beauty pageant fans search for live online content. The study asks the question: how do Filipino beauty pageant fans consume online live streaming content amidst the evolving landscape of social media and digital access?
Integration of Information Literacy Training Across University

ENG: The presentation addresses the integration of information literacy (IL) training within university curricula, facilitated by the library. At the undergraduate level, students acquire foundational knowledge of library services, search methodologies, and the evaluation of sources. Master's studies include training and workshops on specific topics, such as advanced search techniques, proper referencing, and ethical usage. At the postgraduate level, the training encompasses literature review methodologies, publishing ethics, open science principles, and research data management. The progressive model, developed in collaboration with faculty, ensures the continuous advancement of skills throughout academic studies, thereby contributing to academic success and the promotion of lifelong learning. Subject librarians and data managers play a key role in fostering information literacy. The key practices, challenges, and benefits associated of this approach are also highlighted.
Library and Information Services for National Minorities and Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine in the Context of Contemporary Challenges

ENG: The study analyses the long-term trends in library and information services for representatives of ethnic communities in Ukraine after 2014. The focus on national minority issues is due to a number of challenges faced by ethnic communities since the beginning of the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation and the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, regional universal scientific libraries have become a unifying hub and space for intercultural dialogue for more than 130 ethnic groups in Ukraine, some of which are on the verge of extinction or assimilation. The authors focus on the analysis of current reporting materials of library institutions, which allows us to highlight the main achievements and problematic issues in the field of ensuring the rights of minorities to library and information services. Despite the steady attention of practicing librarians to minority issues, the comprehensive processing of a significant and heterogeneous array of statistical information over the past decade has remained outside the scope of research interests of library scientists. The identified long-term trends provide a theoretical basis for a substantive, rather than declarative, solution to the problems associated with minority access to literature in their native languages.

Open Science Community: A Supportive Network Fostering a Culture of Collaboration (presentation)

ENG: With each passing year, the relevance of open science becomes increasingly evident, driven by rapid technological advancements and the growing awareness of systemic challenges in traditional research practices. Open science strategies are a crucial part of the solution, and while research libraries have increased training, creating a supportive researchers’ community is key to effective, real-time implementation. By fostering a space for knowledge exchange, training, and interdisciplinary collaborations, open science communities can help their members, researchers, not only learn about new tools but also apply them in their research lifecycle. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Library has participated in an Open Science Community (OSC) incubator program, which became a starting point to implement the OS community at the University. We defined groups, including early-stage, mid-career, and senior researchers, as well as research support staff and university administrators. The community's purpose is to organise activities such as hands-on activity workshops, journal club meetings and other events to open science practices in a friendly and safe environment, create a supportive network, and provide space for knowledge exchange, training, and interdisciplinary collaborations. These hands-on, collaborative activities are particularly effective because they allow members to learn through direct application and shared problem-solving. By working together, researchers can apply open science principles to their specific projects and disciplines, gaining practical skills while also building a foundation for future interdisciplinary projects. KTU's library is aiming to lead a positive change in research culture, making science more transparent, trustworthy and collaborative.
The Relationship between Attitude, Research Data Service, and Data Quality: A Study in Indonesian State Higher Education Institutions’ Libraries

ENG: Librarians’ responses to customer requests reflect their attitude. Encouraging positive attitudes among librarians is crucial for preparing institutions to reach their maximum potential in service delivery, particularly in research data services. Universities need academic library research data services to maintain data quality. These services help academic communities verify and maintain the quality of their data. Institutions, projects, and stakeholders determine the strategic value of data quality dimensions. This study aims to investigate research data services practiced by Indonesian academic librarians and to assess their attitudes, which are crucial for enhancing research data services and improving the quality of research data. Quantitative approach was used in this research. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. SEM-PLS and SmartPLS 3 were used for data analysis. This study focuses on academic librarians working in higher education institutions that are members of the Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI). Respondents were selected from libraries that provide research data services. The results show that all constructs in the study were valid and reliable. The results emphasize the critical importance of research data services in the research model and the indirect effect of attitude on data quality through these services. Attitude has a significant impact on the research data service. However, the research data service has a more substantial impact on data quality. Fostering positive attitudes through training and supportive environments can improve service delivery and data quality. Strengthening research data services also enhances institutional credibility and academic outcomes.

Scientometric and Bibliometric Activities as Important Areas of Activities in University Libraries

ENG: The growth of scientific information arrays and their evaluation for information management purposes is increasing every day. Scientific libraries are trying to further manage this process with new, digital opportunities in addition to traditional methods and are introducing new evaluation methods using modern methodology. Consolidated international standards have gradually been formed, so it is important to adapt national projects to these standards. It is proposed to expand the participation of academic libraries in determining the national h-index.
Бібліотечно-інформаційне обслуговування національних меншин та корінних народів України в умовах викликів сучасності (презентація)

UKR: Дослідження аналізує довгострокові тенденції, що простежуються у сфері бібліотечно-інформаційного обслуговування представників етнічних спільнот України після 2014 року. Фокус на проблематиці націнальних меншин обумовлений низкою викликів, з якими стикнулися етнічні громади з початком гібридної агресії РФ та пандемії COVID-19. Обласні універсальні наукові бібліотеки протягом окресленого періоду стали об'єднавчим хабом та простором міжкультурного діалогу для понад 130 етносів України, частина з яких знаходиться на межі зникнення, або асиміляції. Автори зосереджуються на аналізі поточних звітних матеріалів бібліотечних установ, що дає змогу виокремити основні здобутки та проблемні моменти у царині забезпечення прав меншин на бібліотечно-інформаційне обслуговування. Не дивлячись на стійку увагу практикуючих бібліотекарів до меншинної проблематики, комплексне опрацювання значного та різнорідного масиву статистичної інформації за останнє десятиліття до сьогодні залишалося поза сферою наукових інтересів вчених-бібліотекознавців. Виокремлені довгострокові тенденції дають теоретичну основу для предметного, а не декларативного вирішення проблем, пов'язаних із доступом меншин до літератури рідними мовами.
Відкриті освітні ресурси – важлива адженда бібліотеки закладу вищої освіти (презентація)

UKR: У рамках дослідження автори проаналізували роль бібліотеки ВДПУ у формуванні середовища відкритих освітніх ресурсів та зробили спробу оцінити їх ефективність. Для оцінки даних на основі використання інтернет-ресурсів бібліотеки було використано описову статистику та методи спостереження. Результати дослідження показали поступове впровадження принципів відкритої освіти в педагогічному університеті, що є вигідним як для студентів, так і для викладачів, оскільки вони отримують вільний доступ до відповідного освітнього контенту, одночасно підвищуючи інституційну репутацію університету та бібліотечних фахівців.

Принципи відкритого доступу та відкритої науки в Україні: що думають дослідники і як можуть допомогти бібліотекарі? (презентація)

UKR: Ця презентація досліджує ставлення українських дослідників до принципів відкритого доступу, відкритої науки та управління даними досліджень на основі результатів національного соціологічного опитування (квітень-липень 2025 року). Це дослідження, в якому взяли участь представники різних дисциплін та академічних установ, має на меті оцінку їхньої обізнаності, практики та готовності до впровадження підходів відкритої науки. Результати показують загалом позитивне ставлення до відкритого доступу, проте вказують на обмежене практичне впровадження через інфраструктурні, регуляторні та культурні бар'єри. Дослідники висловили занепокоєння щодо обміну даними, зокрема щодо питань авторського права, зловживання даними та відсутності інституційної підтримки. Опитування також висвітлює прогалини у знаннях щодо планування управління даними та принципів FAIR. Особлива увага приділяється ролі академічних бібліотек як ключових посередників у переході до відкритої науки: вони підтримують дослідників шляхом навчання, надання рекомендацій, послуг зі зберігання даних та адвокації. У доповіді розглянуті практичні рекомендації для наукових установ, політиків та бібліотек, які прагнуть сприяти створенню більш відкритого та схильного до співпраці наукового середовища в Україні.
Репрезентація сценічних концептів воєнного буття у друкованій періодиці сучасної України

UKR: Театр як форма сучасного мистецтва сьогодні активно реагує на виклики воєнної реальності. Його трагічно-драматичне відображення представлене на сторінках сучасних українських друкованих видань у жанрах оглядів, рецензій, фоторепортажів та інтерв'ю. Ці видання, як у друкованій, так і в електронній формі, доступні у фондах публічних бібліотек України та бібліотек закладів вищої освіти. Документально-аналітична складова, об'єктивність викладу і водночас інтерактивність подання забезпечують ефективну комунікацію та формують національно-патріотичні погляди серед читачів.
Роль бібліотечно-інформаційного середовища у формуванні іншомовної комунікативної компетентності майбутніх фахівців з озброєння та техніки інженерних військ

UKR: Робота присвячена дослідженню значення бібліотечно-інформаційного середовища наукової бібліотеки у процесі формування іншомовної комунікативної компетентності майбутніх фахівців з озброєння та техніки інженерних військ. Мета статті – обґрунтувати роль бібліотечно-інформаційного середовища у формуванні іншомовної комунікативної компетентності майбутніх фахівців з озброєння та техніки інженерних військ. У роботі використано аналіз і синтез науково-педагогічної та методичної літератури, описовий метод та ін. Результати проведеного дослідження, а також сформульовані на їхній основі висновки, становлять практичну цінність для викладачів вищих військових закладів освіти, методистів, бібліотечних працівників та розробників освітніх програм, спрямованих на підвищення рівня іншомовної підготовки майбутніх фахівців з озброєння та техніки інженерних військ. Виявлено, що бібліотечно-інформаційне середовище є потужним інструментом формування іншомовної комунікативної компетентності майбутніх військових фахівців, адже поєднання традиційних і сучасних інформаційних технологій, орієнтація на потреби курсантів та відкритість до нових форм роботи забезпечують підготовку висококваліфікованих фахівців, здатних ефективно комунікувати та діяти у міжнародному професійному середовищі.
Сучасні засоби та методи інформаційного споживання у діяльності Дніпровських бібліотек, архівів і музеїв (презентація)

Проаналізовано ресурси вебсайтів та присутність у соціальних мережах як важливий інструмент цифрової комунікації. Визначено роль інноваційних сервісів (електронні каталоги, бази даних, онлайн-читальні зали, віртуальні виставки, чат-боти) у задоволенні інформаційних потреб віддалених користувачів.
Три спроби становлення наукової бібліотеки в Катеринославі (презентація)

UKR: У доповіді наведено три ключові епізоди становлення наукової бібліотеки у Катеринославі від кінця ХVIII до початку ХХ ст. Першу спробу можна умовно назвати «прожектерською», другу – «імперською» та більш-менш вдалою, а третю – «радянською» цілком успішною. Але кожна з них має яскравий відбиток лінгвоциду української мови, зокрема у науково-технічній літературі.
Цифрові інструменти академічної бібліотеки: автоматизація моніторингу публікаційної діяльності

UKR: У доповіді представлено результати експериментального дослідження можливостей застосування штучного інтелекту та відкритих API для автоматизації моніторингу публікаційної діяльності в академічних бібліотеках. Дослідження виконано на базі Наукової бібліотеки імені М. Максимовича Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка. Розроблений прототип системи забезпечує автоматичне отримання бібліографічних даних, формування описів у стилі APA 7th Edition та експорт результатів у табличні формати. Створення програмного коду здійснювалося за допомогою ШІ-сервісів Lovable, V0 та ChatGPT, що дало змогу автоматизувати розробку без глибоких технічних навичок. Особливу увагу приділено тестуванню функціональності системи та оцінці точності обробки даних. Отримані результати підтверджують, що інтеграція ШІ та відкритих API здатна суттєво підвищити ефективність бібліотечної роботи та скоротити обсяг рутинних операцій навіть за умов обмеженого фінансування.
