Analysis of Problem Related to Experimental Data Processing in the Study of the Rolling Stock Influence on the Track
(KTU leidykla „Technologija“, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2022) Bondarenko, Iryna; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: In paper discusses the problem of the correctness of the unification of experimental data by axes and points of measurement. The purpose of the study is to analyse experimental data in the study of the influence of the rolling stock on the railway track associated with the change of the nature and ratio of values of forces and stresses when combining data. Experimental data obtained from the study of the influence of Tulpar Talgo on the railway track were considered. The main feature is the construction of a trolley having one wheel instead of two, which makes it possible to show the nature of changes in stresses and forces when grouping data. This made it possible to assess the correctness of the unification in terms of the nature of the force ratio for the passage of rolling stock in the study area.

(Дніпропетровський національний університет залізничного транспорту імені академіка В. Лазаряна, Дніпропетровськ, 2016) Neduzha, Larysa; Shvets, Anzhela O.
EN: Purpose. To conduct the research at all stages of design, development, operation, residual operation life determination, namely, preliminary study, action principle choice, design of draft and technical projects, their optimization, preparation of design documentation and control information for automated production, comprehensive engineering analysis, it is required to use the latest computer technologies. Their use can not only present data and information in some way, but also gives the opportunity to effectively and directly interact with the information object that is created or demonstrated. Methodology. To perform engineering calculations associated with the analysis of the strength of machines, mechanisms, constructions one uses both analytical and numerical methods in practice. The most common method for analysing the stress-strain state of object models, obtaining their dynamic and stability characteristics at constant and variable modes of external load is the finite element method, which is implemented in many famous and widespread software products, providing strength calculation of models of machines, mechanisms and structures. Findings. The use of modern software for designing machine parts and various types of their joints and for strength analysis of structures is justified. Colour charts for distribution of stresses, displacement, internal efforts, safety factor and others allow accurate and quick identification of the most dangerous places in the structure. The program also provides an opportunity to «look» inside the elements and see the resulting distribution of internal force factors. Originality. The paper considered the aspects, which are unexplored at present, associated with the current state and prospects of development of industrial production, the use of software package for design and calculations in the mechanical industry. The result of the work is the justification of software application for solving problems that are aimed at using research findings for various practical tasks in specific fields of mechanical engineering. Practical value. Compared with other software systems, popularity of the considered one is explained by easy mastering of the system, quick implementation both in training and in production process The organizational structure, «friendly» graphical interface and accessible language make learning and use of the program very convenient. These and other factors actually reduce the time for project implementation, emphasize the relevance and the practical importance of the software system, which is appreciated by its users.

Asphalt Pavement Damage Detection through Deep Learning Technique and Cost-Effective Equipment: a Case Study in Urban Roads Crossed by Tramway Lines
(MDPI, 2024) Guerrieri, Marco; Parla, Giuseppe; Khanmohamadi, Masoud; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Asphalt pavements are subject to regular inspection and maintenance activities over time. Many techniques have been suggested to evaluate pavement surface conditions, but most of these are either labour-intensive tasks or require costly instruments. This article describes a robust intelligent pavement distress inspection system that uses cost-effective equipment and the ‘you only look once’ detection algorithm (YOLOv3). A dataset for flexible pavement distress detection with around 13,135 images and 30,989 bounding boxes of damage was used during the neural network training, calibration, and validation phases. During the testing phase, the model achieved a mean average precision of up to 80%, depending on the type of pavement distress. The performance metrics (loss, precision, recall, and RMSE) that were applied to estimate the object detection accuracy demonstrate that the technique can distinguish between different types of asphalt pavement damage with remarkable accuracy and precision. Moreover, the confusion matrix obtained in the validation process shows a distress classification sensitivity of up to 98.7%. The suggested technique was successfully implemented in an inspection car. Measurements conducted on urban roads crossed by tramway lines in the city of Palermo proved the real-time ability and great efficacy of the detection system, with potentially remarkable advances in asphalt pavement examination efficacy due to the high rates of correct distress detection.

Assessing Tractors’ Active Safety in Serbia: A Driving Simulator Study
(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2025) Simović, Sreten; Trifunović, Aleksandar; Ivanišević, Tijana; Lukoševičius, Vaidas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The active safety of tractors remains a major concern in rural road environments, where tractor drivers face high crash risks due to limited vehicle visibility. In Serbia, 1.4% of crashes involve tractors, mainly due to poor visibility (64.3%), lack of beacon lights, unsafe overtaking, and unmarked stopped tractors (14.3% each). These issues reduce safety, increase fuel consumption and emissions, and cause economic losses. A driving simulator study with 117 drivers examined how visibility equipment affects speed perception. The results showed that 20 km/h was best estimated with all visibility aids, while 10 km/h was most accurately judged with only the slow-moving vehicle emblem. These findings emphasize the potential for simple, cost-effective visibility measures to enhance the active safety of tractors in mixed rural traffic conditions. By enhancing tractor visibility, these measures reduce crash risks, minimize unnecessary acceleration and deceleration, and lower fuel consumption and emissions associated with traffic disturbances. Furthermore, by preventing crashes, these solutions contribute to reducing resource consumption in crash-related medical care, vehicle repairs, and infrastructure damage. Integrating improved visibility equipment into rural traffic policy can significantly enhance tractors’ active safety and reduce the risk of crashes in agricultural regions.

Comparative Analysis of Options for Strengthening the Railway Subgrade with Vertical Elements
(Printing House “Technologija”, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2021) Tiutkin, Oleksii L.; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: In paper the task set to investigate and determine the impact of the parameters for strengthening with vertical elements (piles) on the stress and displacement of the track superstructure. The scientific hypothesis is the possibility of selecting such parameters of these elements that minimally affect the stress state of the track superstructure. For this finite-element models of two options for strengthening have been developed. Using a professional complex at different values of deformation characteristics values of displacements and stresses were obtained. The analysis of the stress-strain state for both options reveals that the more effective option of strengthening the subgrade. It has a more positive effect on the deformation state of the subgrade, reduces the vertical displacement of the track superstructure, reduces its stress state, the value of which allows us to testify to the normal operation of the subgrade.

Correlations Between Transportation and the Covid-19 Pandemic
(AIP Conference Proceedings, 2022) Barberi, Salvatore; Arena, Fabio; Termine, Francesco; Canale, Antonino; Olayode, Isaac Oyeyemi; Neduzha, Larysa; Zuccalà, Yuri
ENG: COVID pandemic has abruptly changed people habits and lifestyles worldwide, including the usage and perception towards all the different transportation systems; to this date (mid-2021), the pandemic has been going on for over a year now, and there is still no certainty about when it will end. A drastic decline in the number of commercial flights both national and international has happened, as a consequence of the lockdown policies adopted by the various countries around the globe in order to prevent the infection from spreading around, and with variable trends depending on the period and the reciprocal agreements between the various states. Land-side public transportation too has witnessed a backlash mainly due to similar policies or even not leaving home during lockdowns, often working remotely from home, and switching from public transportation to driving, walking or cycling if necessary. COVID-19 and transport are linked by a two-way relationship: if it is true that COVID-19 impacts on transport systems, it is also true that transport systems, in turn, have a very important role in the spread of the pandemic. Swabs first and vaccines recently, are raising new hopes about the pandemic ending soon. The consequences of COVID-19 will in any case be significant, and will revolutionize the way of conceiving transport, meaning new challenges for scientific research.

Development Genesis of Functional Safety on the Example of an Element of the Railways Infrastructure Subsystem
(Springer, 2024) Bondarenko, Iryna; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The degree of protection against the danger arises as a result of incorrect (unforeseen by the developers) operation of a technical object is determined by the issues of functional safety, which have acquired the greatest relevance in this period of human development and have become the object of research. Authors consider the problems of functional safety of dynamic systems on the example of an element of the railway infrastructure subsystem – a railway track. It is shown that an attempt to create a single universal system for classifying tracks, considering the satisfaction of heterogeneous requirements to ensure the conditions for interoperability of various railway systems, is unrealistic in the current circumstances. The missing components for the classification system of the railway track structure operability are considered. An analysis of the historical understanding of various processes in relation to real-time is given. The main direction for improving the quality of the functional safety of a railway track is formulated – the need to combine the theory of elasticity with new theories that change the approaches to studying time-varying processes from quasi-dynamic to dynamic.

Development of a Base Material–Barrier Coating System Using Affordable Raw Materials for the Sustainable Production of Critical Railway Components
(MDPI (Basel, Switzerland), 2026) Kniaziev, Sergey; Guerrieri, Marco; Kniazieva, Hanna; Trembach, Bohdan; Babyak, Mykola O.; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The promising potential of porous metallic materials for railway applications (e.g., conductive materials, materials for braking systems) is due to their unique combination of low density, high specific surface area, and high energy absorption capabilities. Porous multi-phase silicide coatings (FeSi, Si2CN4) provide a synergistic effect, doubling surface hardness and establishing a stable diffusion barrier. The article proposes a comprehensive approach to replacing materials for critical railway transport components, involving the development of a base material and a barrier coating. The use of widely available induction-melting components to produce a base material with superior mechanical properties is demonstrated. The material exhibits high static strength and hardness while maintaining acceptable impact toughness and ductility. To enhance wear, corrosion, and scale resistance, technology for forming a barrier layer via silicide coatings is proposed. The coating formation technology enables the regulation of porosity through the formation of nitrogen-containing phases. It is shown that pores can serve as “containers” for fillers that impart functional properties to the coatings (e.g., adjusting the friction coefficient or electrical conductivity). The new base material–barrier coating system can serve as a foundation for the sustainable production of critical rolling stock parts and other devices for railway transportation systems.

Dynamic Sustainable Processes Simulation to Study Transport Object Efficiency
(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2022) Bondarenko, Iryna; Severino, Alessandro; Olayode, Isaac Oyeyemi; Campisi, Tiziana; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The development of reliability theory has led to the setting of tasks requiring consideration of the efficiency and functional safety of technical objects of transport over the life cycle. The paper demonstrates the possibility of using the universal laws of elastic wave theory to describe natural phenomena occurring in complex dynamic systems, on the examples of solving issues arising in the interaction of rolling stock and the railway track. The accounting of the time component and the ability of elastic waves to propagate energy in time and space allowed considering any interaction process as a chain of processes, incidence-reflection-refraction of force impulses of interaction. Understanding the physics of dynamic processes that occur in objects while performing their intended functions allows developers to improve objects in such a way as to minimize their life cycle cost and maximize their ability to perform their intended functions under different operating conditions. In addition, it allows the expansion of existing methods and approaches to diagnostics of dynamic transport systems. All this is a base for making it possible to develop an innovative and effective tool for engineers and scientists to assess the impact of technosphere transport objects on human habitats.

Effective Jet-Grouting Application for Improving the State of Deformation of Landmarks
(MDPI, 2022) Severino, Alessandro; Wahrhaftig, Alexandre de Macêdo; Tiutkin, Oleksii L.; Gubashova, Valentyna; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The problem of improving the state of deformation of landmarks is an important aspect when performing civil services, because they have a historical interest and bring symbolisms which relate to an event of particular interest for the community. The engineering–geological surveys, technical evaluation and operational suitability of landmarks of national significance are performed to improve the state of deformation. The conducted analytical assessment of landslide hazard slope stability in the RocScience Slide computational complex shows that in the presence of landslide prevention works, and the stability coefficient is increased by a factor of 1.21–1.37. The regularities of deformation and strength parameters of the soil–cement obtained during the jet-grouting application indicated an increase in strength gain of amplifier elements by an average of 1.6–4.0 times. This proves the effectiveness of the jet-grouting application for improving the state of deformation of landmarks of national significance.

An Estimation of the Energy Savings of a Mainline Diesel Locomotive Equipped with an Energy Storage Device
(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2024) Riabov, Ievgen; Goolak, Sergey; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The method of improving a two-section mainline diesel locomotive by using energy storage in the traction system is considered. A mathematical model was developed to study the movement of a diesel locomotive based on the recommendations and provisions of the theory of locomotive traction. For this purpose, the movement of a diesel locomotive as part of a train along a given section of a track was studied. It was determined that the use of an energy storage device on a diesel locomotive will allow up to 64% of the energy spent on train traction to accumulate. The use of energy storage in the accumulator during electrodynamic braking ensured a reduction in fuel consumption by about 50%, regardless of the options for equipping the traction system of the diesel locomotive with an energy accumulator. It is established that regardless of the options for equipping the traction system of the diesel locomotive with an energy storage device, the indicators characterizing the degree of use of the diesel engine do not change. These research results can be used in works devoted to the improvement of the control system of energy exchange between the accumulator and traction engines of diesel locomotives.

Factors Influencing Courier Drivers’ Preferences and Safety Perceptions in Urban Deliveries
(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2025) Ivanišević, Tijana; Trifunović, Aleksandar; Neduzha, Larysa; Simović, Sreten
ENG: Background: Urban freight transport is essential for the functioning of cities. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the growth of e-commerce, creating new challenges for courier services. While consumer satisfaction has been extensively studied, little attention has been paid to courier drivers’ own perceptions and preferences. This study aims to fill that gap. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 139 drivers employed in eight courier companies in Serbia. Data were analyzed using parametric statistical methods (Independent Samples T-Test, Paired-Samples T-Test, and One-way ANOVA), with additional post hoc tests to explore group differences. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed across demographic, operational, and safety-related factors (gender, age, residence, occupation, license ownership, delivery area, and type of goods). A strong preference emerged for passenger vehicles as the safest mode of delivery, highlighting a misalignment between current operational practices and drivers’ safety perceptions. Conclusions: The findings emphasize the importance of tailoring delivery strategies to demographic and operational contexts. Practical recommendations include improving transport safety, optimizing delivery zones, and addressing driver satisfaction as a determinant of service quality. The study contributes new insights into last-mile delivery by focusing on the perspectives of courier drivers rather than consumers.

Innovative Trends in Railway Condition Monitoring
(ELSEVIER B. V., 2024) Bondarenko, Iryna; Lukoševičius, Vaidas; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Provision of functional safety of a railway track requires complementing the existing system of assessment of the railway track condition with the stress-strain behaviour assessment of the rail substructure, i.e. the assessment of the effect of track structure elasticity on the change of its geometric parameters during rolling stock passage over time. There is a lack of available theoretical and practical information about any pivotal changes in this field of science. The subject of the study is the in-situ elasticity indicators of a railway track and geometric monitoring indicators of railway structure condition or similar indicators obtained by numerical processing of data provided by the measuring systems of a track recording car and enabling the determination of change of irregularity parameters over time taking into account of the tonnage passed. The outcome of the investigation is the proposed approach to the development of an unparalleled diagnostic loading system which has been the missing part of the “puzzle” in the existing system of integrated assessment of the technical condition of a railway track.

Investigation of Dynamic Processes of Rolling Stock–Track Interaction: Experimental Realization
(MDPI, 2023) Bondarenko, Iryna; Lukoševičius, Vaidas; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The dynamic process of the railway track–rolling stock interaction is characterized by timedependent dynamics that are determined by both the varying characteristics of the interaction objects and the varying climatic conditions. This study investigated the effect of different groups of influence on the dynamic process, with a view towards the reduction of the cases of randomness during the registration of the process in experiments and an expansion of the understanding of the processes happening during the assessment of the registered data. The static nature of the rolling stock has been demonstrated to be not uniform and to influence the scattering of dynamic values under the variation of vertical and horizontal forces due to the characteristics of a rolling stock. The position of the rolling stock truck relative to the track axis during the movement of the rolling stock has been shown to enhance static non-uniformity. The results of the longitudinal force measurements under the three-point and Schlumpf methods have suggested that it is necessary to investigate the process of rail warping under the action of the rolling stock wheels. To enhance the output of the experiments, it is proposed to consider not only the stiffness of the basis of the oscillatory processes that imitate the physical process of oscillation of the system elements by means of the oscillation amplitude, but also the time of response to the oscillation process by using and assessing the triggering time rather than the frequencies of the oscillation processes.

Mobile Working Platform unit as a Mean for Improvement of Safety and Convenience of Emergency Shaft Works
(Instytut Techniki Górniczej KOMAG, Poland, 2021) Małkowski, Piotr; Kamiński, Paweł; Neduzha, Larysa
EN: A level of mine safety is related directly to the condition of its shafts. Thus regular monitoring and maintenance of shaft lining and equipment is vital. However such works are always hard and dangerous, as they are conducted from conveyances. Working platforms are a significant improvement in case of emergency shaft works. However, they need some extremely precious time for assembly. An idea of pull out working platform combines safety and convenience of typical working platform with short time of its installation. Following work presents the idea and construction of the mobile working platform unit, which is a solution for improvement of shaft works conducted from the compartment of the conveyance, as the platform uses cage for transport and operation.

Modeling the Dynamism of Complex Dynamic Systems Using the Universal Laws of the Wave Theory
(KTU leidykla „Technologija“, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2023) Bondarenko, Iryna; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The knowledge that mechanical and electromagnetic waves transfer energy from the source of influence became the basis for modeling the dynamism of complex dynamic systems. The paper shows the possibility of using the universal laws of wave theory for modeling the dynamism of complex dynamic systems. The property of waves to transfer the action function over time and space made it possible to construct oscillations of any point in space, taking into account the time it takes the waves to reach this point. The universal laws of wave propagation in various mediums formed the basis for describing the process of wave propagation within complex dynamic systems. It is shown that the dissipation is caused by the inhomogeneity of the change in energy inside the object during the propagation of waves by taking into account two factors: a decrease in the amplitude with distance from the source and features of the geometry of the object. This approach allows expanding the scope of modeling associated with determining the state of motion, the course of development, and changes in any phenomenon under the influence of external or internal factors (“driving forces”) in complex dynamic systems, taking into account the uniqueness of these systems.

Novel ‘Closed’-System Approach for Monitoring the Technical Condition of Railway Tracks
(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2024) Bondarenko, Iryna; Lukoševičius, Vaidas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Assessing the technical condition of a railway track throughout its service life is crucial to ensuring functional safety. However, it is important to note that current approaches have theoretical and practical gaps that require attention. The purpose of this study is to discuss the reconceptualization of an integrated approach to assess changes in the technical condition of railway tracks caused by rolling stock over their service life. Improving existing systems for assessing the condition of the track can be achieved by modifying the model concept and, subsequently, the measurement and assessment procedures. This paper presents an alternative method for addressing technical issues related to the monitoring and diagnosis of railway tracks, with a particular focus on natural phenomena: energy transfer by elastic waves. The primary aim of this work is to propose an approach for designing a ‘closed’ measurement system that enables tracking of the cause-and-effect relationship. This system takes into account both the elastic dissipative characteristics of the track–rolling stock interaction and the influence of the dynamics of various components in the ‘train-track’ system.

Research on the Resource in the "Wheel-Rail" Pair during the Life Cycle of Traction Rolling Stock
(Printing House “Technologija”, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2024) Yagoda, D.; Babyak, Mykola O.; Keršys, Robertas; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The wear of wheelset bandages largely depends on the shape of the rolling surface. Therefore, the choice of a rational bandage profile is of great importance. At the same time, both technical and economic indicators are taken into consideration. The choice of rationality criteria should be justified and based on statistical regularities of bandage wear and peculiarities of traction rolling stock operation. Researching the resource in the "wheel-rail" pair (considering operational and technological bandage wear) will allow more effective planning of financial costs for the operation and repair of traction rolling stock during its life cycle.

The Role of Cold Ironing in Maritime Transport Emissions
(AIP Conference Proceedings, 2022) Barberi, Salvatore; Campisi, Tiziana; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Maritime Transport is one of the sources of atmospheric pollution, contributing with gaseous emissions mainly caused by marine engines and fossil fuel combustion, and characterized by the production of substances such as CO2, CO, NOx, SOx and PMx, harmful to the environment and human health. Cold Ironing, also known as Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) or Shoreside Supply, is one of the most relatively recent technologies designed to reduce emissions in the maritime industry: it consists in a three-parts system to connect shore-side located power sources, especially with renewable energies and smart grids, to on-board systems able to receive and store electricity, through intermediate connection devices that allow electricity to flow from the port into ships. This technology has been proved to bring financial and environmental benefits, considering also the rise in fuel costs; however, it is still facing some challenges in getting widespread worldwide, mainly due to retrofitting and upgrade costs. It will also require more specific policies and regulations involving stakeholders of different technical and geographical nature. Scientific research is however promising under all these aspects, as it is demonstrating significant reductions in terms of emissions and externalities.

Simulating the Operation of the Pantograph-type Current Collector
(KTU leidykla „Technologija“, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2022) Babyak, Mykola O.; Kalivoda, Jan; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The usage of electricity to increase the safety and environmental friendliness of transportation is a very important issue. The common feature in the work of different types of electric transport is the dependence on reliable contact with the conductor from which it receives power. The reliability of the constant movable contact between the conductor with current and electrical equipment depends on the precise operation of the pantograph complex mechanism. To simplify the planning calculations and approbation of structures, a pantograph model with two degrees of freedom is proposed. It gives an adequate description of the real system and improves the mathematical apparatus while calculating the forces and dynamic displacements of the pantograph mechanisms for electric transport.

Springs of Variable Stiffness in the Control of Seismic Actions in Buildings
(University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, 2023) Wahrhaftig, Alexandre de Macêdo; Dantas, Julia; Menezes, Cibele; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Many regions in the world have experienced the presence of intensive geological events. Given this reality, the control of vibrations caused by earthquakes on buildings is one of the great challenges in seismic regions, as they can cause structural, material, and personal damage, and must be considered with special attention when carrying out a structural project. For this reason, it is necessary to minimize the deleterious effects caused by earthquakes on buildings. In this sense, the present study seeks to evaluate, through the theory of mechanical vibrations, the use of springs of variable stiffness in the control of accelerations induced by seismic action, because springs introduce restoring forces in the system. The evaluation is done through numerical-computational simulation using the finite element method. The frame structure of an idealized building is used in the modelling, where columns and beams are represented by linear elements and the floors by shell elements. In the simulation, springs of variable stiffness are inserted into the joints to control the vibrations produced by earthquakes. These devices are added to the structural system at different heights and directions, aiming to keep the structure’s behaviour unchanged, neutralizing the effects of the earthquake. Based on the obtained results, it is possible to verify the required stiffness and the position in which the springs must be inserted to obtain the constancy of the structural frequency of vibration during the earthquake action.

Stress-Strain Behavior of Railway Embankments Stabilized with Grouted Micropiles
(Published by Elsevier BV, 2024) Tiutkin, Oleksii L.; Autelitano, Federico; Giuliani, Felice; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: Excessive ballasted track deformations may occur during the railway operations due to poor load bearing capacity of the embankment (placed soil or natural ground) or the manifest accumulation of subsidence caused by the soil consolidation and the passage of trains. The principles of pressure grouting (or jet-grouting) technologies, used to create reinforcement elements for the rail trackbed stabilization, are presented, with reference to the specific construction condition on an existing and in-service railway track. A single-track railway, including the superstructure and substructure components, was modeled using the finite element method (FEM). Some soil stabilization options, based on the installation of grouted micropiles according to different layout configurations, were considered. The results of the numerical analyses, in the form of stress and strain behavior of the whole track structure, demonstrated that the use of jet-grouted micropiles is a rational and less expensive option, which can be installed on or close to the track, having positive effects on limiting the vertical deformations of the embankment without affecting the expected distribution of stress states in the embankment middle.

    Transportation and Infrastructure for Sustainability
(MDPI, 2026) Neduzha, Larysa; Bondarenko, Iryna
ENG: The transition to sustainable development requires the integration of technological innovation, environmental responsibility, and effective governance. In this context, transport and infrastructure systems play a key role, as they determine not only mobility efficiency, but also the environmental and socio-economic impacts of modern societies. This Reprint therefore brings together researchers working on different modes of transport and infrastructure systems. The published review, experimental, computational, and theoretical studies covered a wide range of topics, including: environmental and energy transformation of transport systems; infrastructure and engineering solutions; traffic safety and performance in freight transport and navigation systems; management, decision-making, and socio-economic aspects of transport and infrastructure systems. The Reprint aims to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of sustainable transport and infrastructure development, which requires coordinated action across multiple domains. Including the latest research and findings in the Reprint will aid in attaining successful achievement of sustainable development, promoting the principles of sustainable development in all modes of transport and related infrastructure fields.

Transportation Optimization of Homogeneous Freight in the Transport Systems
(KTU leidykla „Technologija“, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2022) Babyak, Mykola O.; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: There are situations where, due to various circumstances, a large number of direct routes in the freight traffic running (which were traditionally used) can not satisfy transport users. Then there is a need to find new routes for the transportation of freight from departure points to destinations. The authors present an example to solve the transport task for the setting transportation routes in an extensive network, taking into account the specifics of transportation of homogeneous freights on concrete sections of railways. This allows optimizing the plan of transportation for homogeneous freightes in the transport systems. This is relevant for the development of new transport routes, especially in modern conditions.

Using Detailing Concept to Assess Railway Functional Safety
(MDPI, 2023) Bondarenko, Iryna; Campisi, Tiziana; Tesoriere, Giovanni; Neduzha, Larysa
ENG: The ability to assess the risks of the functional safety of railway tracks allows harmonizing characteristics of track elements under certain operating conditions under certain maintenance for the efficient use of the track structure throughout its life cycle. The concept of detailing conditions of the interaction of the rolling stock and railway track was used for the productive solution of tasks of infrastructure functional safety assessment. The paper formed an approach to the analytical solution of determination problems of deformability parameters over time using the elastic waves theory. The formation method of interconnections between the technical and economic aspects of the operation of railway infrastructure was proposed. The criteria of deformability work and intensity of use were utilized for the effective use of the track structure through its life cycle. The results of calculations are presented to assess changes in the deformability behaviour of the track elements and structure when the force and speed parameters of the operating conditions change, as well as the algorithm of the method for estimating the operation deformability of the railway track. Thus, the proposed approach can be adapted to optimize objects by railway functional safety assessment at the stage of object operation simulation.
